We were delighted to host a visit by members of the Good Homes Alliance to One Brighton this week. The GHA is the UKs leading industry body for sustainable residential development and comprises developer and other practitioners at the leading edge. As a founder member of the GHA we were keen to see what our colleagues thought of the scheme. Simon Corbey, Technical Manager for the GHA commented :
” This is sustainable building come of age. Wonderful design in a great location: The scale of the project is breathtaking at 11 storeys – the tallest European structure to use this build system - and just 2 minutes to the station, negating car ownership.
All the sustainable building boxes are ticked from exposed thermal mass, lean construction, high recycled content concrete, engineered timber joinery, single skin walls, insulated externally with woodfibre: resulting in impressive thermal performance and comfort, within a breathable construction. All that and it’s zero carbon is use.
Applying the ten OPL principles to the design and build has been vey powerful; sustainability is embedded across every decision, even down to the green site canteen, with builders lunching on salads and locally caught mackerel, and to the bio-diesel powering the site generators. It is equally powerful to consider that OPL has global reach and that this project is one in a growing global development portfolio.
Feedback from the GHA delegates on our site visit was superb and everyone was genuinely inspired and uplifted. Certainly One Brighton put a smile on all our faces”
