We were delighted that in July we hosted the James Cook training yacht at Middlehaven.
The yacht ( or for those of a nautical mind- ketch), was was built by trainees from the Swan Hunter yard at Newcastle, and is owned by the Ocean Youth Trust North East and skippered by Steve Lennon . The Trust were approached by Andy White , Middlesbrough Council, Head of Community Children Families and Learning Department to provide an opportunity for young people to sail on the vessel and be visible for the Town and development. The Trust aims to give young people the challenge of crewing an oceangoing yacht and, as they do so, to learn about team work, build their confidence and develop an awareness of the environment. The first trip was great success and we look forward to welcoming them back at some time in the future.
